Behind a 15-strikeout, one-hit performance from pitcher Carissa McMillon, the Madera Coyotes defeated the Madera South Stallions 5-1 in another chapter of the cross-city rivalry.
McMillon tied a school record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game Wednesday, putting her name in the same breath as Vanessa Salinas and Mitzi Zenger, both AllLeague pitchers. McMillon didn’t allow a baserunner and threw 86 pitches, 63 for strikes.
The only hit she allowed was a solo home run to Madera South lead off batter Jessica Owen in the fourth.
“She pitched pretty good, except she left a good pitch to their best batter,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “She has been coming along and is starting to become a battler.” ...
