When Ray Hix, the manager of the Madera National Little League champion McDonald’s, looks in the mirror, he’ll have a constant reminder of what his team accomplished Saturday.

After the team made the playoffs, Hix made a promise to his players that if they won the City Championship then they could shave his head -- a daring move by the clean-cut coach who has been managing McDonald’s for the past 11 seasons.

That incentive for the McDonald’s players paid off in their return trip to the City Championship game Saturday as they beat defending champion Papa Murphy’s 6-2 at Lions Town and Country Park.

McDonald’s (23-1), which suffered an 8-2 loss to Papa Murphy’s (23-1) on this stage last season, won its first city title since taking it all in 2001...
