With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning between the Madera South and Edison-Fresno softball teams, Stallion senior captain Destanie Martinez knew what her job was with the eventual game-winning run on third base.
“I just had to make contact and get a hit,” Martinez said.
She did just that as Martinez came up with a solid grounder to third base which allowed her teammate Jennah Valdez to beat the throw to home plate and score the game-ending run Friday in a 4-3 win over the Tigers at Madera South High.
Martinez, who also had an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning, helped Madera South (8-14) win its first County/Metro Athletic Conference game in the program’s history by coming through with the clutch hit.
