Local horseshoe players traveled to San Diego to compete in the United States Police and Fire Championships and came home with gold, silver and bronze medals.
This year saw a new format of Olympic-style competition with 4,000 law enforcement officials and firefighters participating in more than 60 events. The games are open to all active and retired law enforcement and firefighting personnel.
Local winners are players in the Big Valley Horseshoe League of Madera. All of the Madera winners are correctional peace officers.
