Maderans in College: Martinez records 20 kills in loss

In a 3-2 loss to Simpson University, Valeria Martinez (Madera South) recorded 20 kills to lead the Bobcats. She also recorded 13 digs. In a 3-1 victory over Pacific Union College, Martinez had 2 kills and 10 digs.

The eighth-ranked The Master’s College lost a three-set match to fourth-ranked Biola University on Saturday. Sam Dougherty (Madera) had 7 kills with 4 digs. Dougherty led The Master’s to a 3-0 victory over Hope International. Dougherty led the team with 18 kills and added 3 aces and 9 digs.

Katherine Grow (Madera) returned to action Wednesday in UC Santa Cruz’s 3-0 victory over Mills College. Grow had been sidelined with a sprained ankle and played a week earlier in UCSC’s Senior night, but hadn’t been able to attack. She recorded 3 kills with 4 digs in the victory over Mills College.

The Sacramento State Hornets came close to an upset of top-ranked Eastern Washington on Oct. 20, but came away with a 31-28 loss. Ben Cowger (Liberty) recorded three tackles for the Hornets. Punter Justin Weldon (Liberty) averaged 38.8 yards on five punts in the loss with a long punt of 56 yards...
