Maderans in College: Grow returns for UCSC Senior Night

Katherine Grow (Madera) returned from a sprained ankle to play in Tuesday’s Senior Night game for UC Santa Cruz. Despite a tender ankle, Grow recorded 3 digs with 2 service aces in her return.

Running for the Fresno State Bulldogs cross country team, Carina Mendoza (Madera) placed 61st and fourth on the team Oct. 13 to led the Bulldogs to a fifth place finish at the Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara University. In the boys race, Kevin Poythress (Madera) also placed fourth on the team to help the Bulldogs men’s team to an 11th place finish.

Alisha Brown (Madera South) was the third UC Riverside runner to cross the finish line Oct. 13 at the Highlander Invitational at UC Riverside. Brown finished fifth overall to lead the Highlanders to a women’s team title at their own race.

For the Sacramento State Hornets, defensive end Ben Cowger (Liberty) recorded three tackles with a quarterback sack in a 19-14 victory over Weber State. Cowger has 2 sacks on the season with 11 tackles and 5 tackles for losses. Punter Justin Weldon (Liberty) had 4 punts for a 37.0 average with two inside the 20-yard line...
