In a town where the sport of cross country is widely known throughout the section to be successful year after year, all three Madera County schools will participate in an event that honors a local legendary coach who helped runners strive to be the best.
Madera, Madera South and Liberty will run in Saturday’s Dennis DeWitt Cross Country Invitational at Lions Town and Country Park beginning at 8 a.m.
The meet, which is named after the former longtime Madera High coach, will feature 17 high school teams that will run a 1.8-mile course. There will be a junior high portion of the race with seven schools scheduled for a meet that’s running surface is mainly grass with a combination of gravel and asphalt.
