Madera Speedway sets up for champions night

The points are tripled, the tickets are only $5, and the drama will be at its peak during the LoanMart Madera Speedway’s Championship Night this Saturday, as seven racing classes are on the docket and at least three season titles remain up for grabs.

In the LunkerDaddy Limited Late Models, Tony “The Tiger” Schmitz holds a very slim three-point lead over Matt “Attack” Erickson, and Speedway owner Kenny Shepherd said the two and their teams were preparing in a similar fashion to boxers before a big fight.

“These two drivers are not getting along right now,” Shepherd said. “Tension would be the word for it. So my recommendation is fans may want to sit back a few rows because they’re going to be flying down the track and all over each other. It’s gearing up to be a race with a lot of drama and action.”

The last time the two drivers met at the Speedway on Sept. 13 they got into a scuffle in front of the grandstands after a very wild race where, in an extremely rare sight for the experienced drivers, both spun their cars multiple times and constantly made contact around turns...
