Madera schools fare well

The Madera Coyotes and the Madera South Stallions girls volleyball teams advanced to the Gold Division quarterfinals and the Liberty Hawks lost in the semifinals in the Silver Division bracket at the Madera Volleyball Classic on Saturday at Madera South.

The Coyotes lost a close two-set match to Clovis East in the Gold Bracket semifinals, 25-18, 26-24. On the next court, the Stallions lost a second time to the EdisonFresno Tigers in three sets, 25- 18, 24-26, 15-13.

“We definitely got a lot better this weekend,” Madera head coach Robyn Keune said. “We had less unforced errors and got tougher.”

“We had a good sense of the things that we nailed down at practice, we saw in the matches,” Madera South head coach Nate Perez said. “We still need to close out matches. We had our opportunities in the matches. We didn’t pressure enough with the serve.” ...
