Madera players enjoy last game

MERCED — For a group of Madera, Liberty and Madera South football players, it would mean the last time putting on their school’s jersey at Friday’s North/South Rotary All-Star football classic at Golden Valley-Merced’s Veterans Stadium.

Unfortunately for the Madera nine, the game was called with five minutes left becauseof a fight, thus giving a premature end to their high school careers.

“That’s selfish,” Madera’s Anthony Molina told his teammates when learning about the end of the game. “For some of us, it’s the last time we’re playing football and you took five minutes of playing time away from us. That’s just selfish.”

Molina, who will attend Fresno State and try to walk on next season, was one of three Madera players to play for the South team, coached by Madera’s Bonner Cunnings and his coaching staff, in a 35-13 loss...
