Madera to host wiffle ball tourney

For Madera South baseball player Nik Lutz, there is more to wiffle ball than what meets the eye.

While the game is generally dismissed as a recreational activity played by children, Lutz wants to show that it can be a fun competitive sport enjoyed by teammates.

With the help of his father Jerry, he, along with his teammates on the local Central Cal Express, will have a chance to compete in the Golden Stick Wiffle League (GSWL) national championships in Savannah, Ga. in October.

Wiffle ball — which generally is played with a lightweight plastic bat and ball on a smaller sized field with adjusted baseball dimensions — is becoming Nik Lutz’s new favorite pastime...
