When Bill Musick was at Madera High School in the 1950s, there wasn’t a wrestling team.
By the time he was a junior, wrestling started and Musick, now 74, joined the team. However, he thought he was done after one season. Fortunately for Musick, wrestling coach Vern Brooks had other ideas.
“I didn’t want to wrestle after my junior year,” Musick said. “I finished my senior football season with Coach Brooks. After the last football game, he told me ‘See you Monday.’ I asked him what are we doing Monday. He told me, ‘you are going to be a wrestler.’ Having him as a coach was great and I loved every minute of it.”
