The rivalry between Madera High School and Madera South High School began developing as soon as the latter school opened six years ago.
That competition is not only on the athletic field but also in the area of fundraising. Bill Dawson, a Madera pizza parlor owner, came up with the idea of an organization that gives both schools a chance to catch a piece of the fundraising action.
Dawson said he created the Madera Foundation of high school Athletic Needs (FAN) in 2007, shortly after Madera South High School opened.
