It was the ideal way for the Madera American 12-year-old All-Star team to begin the District 10 Little League double elimination tournament.

Madera American opened the tourney with back-to-back wins by outscoring its first two opponents 22-2, including a 12-0 win Sunday over the Sunnyside-Fresno All-Stars at Lions Town and County Park.

Madera American (2-0) will play at undefeated River Park-Fresno tonight at 7.

“We had this group last year as 11-year-olds and they were one game short of winning the district,” Madera American manager Louie Franco said. “So we figured that this team has all the talent to do it with their hitting, pitching and defense. We worked real hard in practice in making them believe in themselves.” ...
