Madera 8-under team takes third place

Monday morning marked the final game of the National Bobby Sox Tournament of Champions for Madera’s 8-under squad as Fairfield-Suisun came out swinging and the local girls couldn’t recover in time.

It wouldn’t be all bad for Madera, though, as their 8-3 loss did result in third place in their division at the tournament that has seen more than 40 teams play from Saturday to Monday, including six teams in their age bracket.

Fairfield-Suisun came out like a team possessed against Madera, smacking five straight hits off of starting pitcher Lauren Chapman to enforce the three-run-per-inning limit.

They would enforce that limit yet again in the second inning, starting a train of momentum that would only sputter for two of the game’s five innings...
