Madera athlete Benny Madrigal, 27, is accustomed to taking on many challenges in his running career.
The former Madera High and Fresno Pacific University cross country and track star has battled through many obstacles — often using his sheer determination to pull through in competitive races.
That tough-to-break runner’s will for Madrigal will be put to the ultimate test Monday on the world’s grand running stage — the Boston Marathon — an annual signature race that’s traditionally held on the third Monday of every April in Boston, Mass.
“My goal is to go out there and compete with the best of the world and do the best I can,” Madrigal said. “It’s going to be a real emotional race but a great day. I never really pictured I’d be in it. It’s the biggest stage that I’ve ever participated in. There’s 36,000 runners that start on the line and includes participants from all over the world representing their states and country.” ...
