Local football legend Tim McDonald said he welcomed the opportunity to coach in college, but never thought his first chance would come at Fresno State.

“I thought about coaching in college or the NFL one day,” said McDonald, who left the coaching job at Edison High to join the Bulldogs. “I was so satisfied at Edison working with kids, so college was a natural step for me and I’m home, so the setting was right.

“I get the chance to work with young men who are shaping their lives, and their minds, at a critical stage of their careers.”

Bulldogs’ coach Tim DeRuyter, who was hired in December to replace Pat Hill, selected McDonald to coach the secondary, an area of the field McDonald knows well from his playing days...
