Liberty wins first-ever tournament

With a 40-37 victory Saturday over Kings ChristianLemoore, the Liberty Hawks girls basketball team won the school’s first girls basketball tournament, taking the Parlier Tournament championship.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Lilly Hernandez led the team with 19 points, including 7-of-10 from the free throw line. She also had 13 rebounds.

“I am so proud of the ladies,” first-year head coach Kim Stroemer said. “They played one of their best games tonight. They needed to come out and play great defense to take this tournament and that is exactly what they did.”

Estephania Medrano added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Two other Hawks recorded double-digit rebound totals. Shelby Gee had 10 boards with 4 blocks and All-Tournament selection Rosanna Garcia had 11 rebounds with 3 steals...
