With the regular season opener two weeks away, the Liberty Hawks football team is getting early recognition as the team to beat.

Rankings were released Tuesday and the Hawks were the No. 1 team in Division V. Returning the top three running backs from last season, the Hawks are ready to win their first football Valley Championship.

“Anytime you get recognized at the beginning of the season, it’s an honor,” head coach Mike Nolte said. “We are realistic that it’s a preseason ranking and we haven’t played a game yet.”

The Hawks face Dos Palos and Central Valley Christian-Visalia in a scrimmage today at 6 p.m. at Liberty. The Hawks open the season Aug. 31 hosting Farmersville at 7 p.m...
