After a 2-0 defeat to the Clovis Cougars two weeks ago in the Peggy Renberg Tournament, Liberty Hawks girls soccer head coach Eli Liuba knew his team could compete with the Cougars.

Not only can the Hawks compete with the Cougars, they can beat them as well.

Briidy Burnell scored in the 35th minute of the second half and the Hawks held on for a 1-0 victory over Clovis on Thursday at Liberty. The Hawks (9-2-1) handed the Cougars their first loss of the season through 15 matches.

“It’s a huge win,” head coach Eli Liuba. “Clovis is a powerhouse. They have great players that are all Div. I club players. For us to win this game is huge.”...
