Liberty players play each other

For the first time, two Liberty softball players went against each other while playing at four-year universities.

Devin Kochergen, a senior at Lynn University, and Hannah Shevenell, a freshman at Lake Erie College, faced each other at the National Training Center Tournament on Tuesday.

Kochergen and Lynn University got the best of the battle with a 10-1 victory over Lake Erie. Kochergen was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and hit a two-run home run, but not off of Shevenell. Shevenell tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs, but four runs were unearned and she walked five batters.

Kochergen is batting .333 with a team-high eight home runs, 33 RBIs and 60 total bases. She hit a grand slam in a 7-4 victory over University of Charleston on Feb. 22...
