Liberty pitcher to play in Area Code games

Liberty pitcher Connor Brogdon will represent the Oakland Athletics Aug. 5 at Blair Field in Long Beach in the annual Area Code baseball games.

Brogdon, an All-Madera Tribune and All-North Sequoia League first team selection, is the first Liberty baseball player to be selected to the Area Code games.

The 26th annual tournament features top underclassmen from geographical areas based on telephone area codes. The players will use wood bats and wear hats of their respective Major League teams. In order to play in the game, a player must be nominated by a scout. Eight regional teams will play in the week-long tournament.

“That’s the biggest thing for the area we fall under,” Brogdon said. “We tried out and they called me a week later to say I made the team.” ...
