Liberty nets 6-3 win over Stallions

After capturing two Div. V Valley Championships and reaching the Div. IV Championship match last year, Liberty girls tennis coach Greg Ruland knew the window might be closing.

Without using the dreaded “R” word, Ruland tries to get his new crop of girls tennis players up to speed. Liberty won four of the six singles matches and two of the doubles matches for a 6-3 season-opening victory over Madera South on Tuesday. Ruland says that he is not rebuilding, rather reloading.

“We are playing young,” Ruland said. “We have no seniors, but a lot of sophomores. We don’t have a leader. We’re kind of reloading, but we’re not doing it yet.”
