CLOVIS — In a matchup between old traditions and new traditions, the newer came out on top, for now.

The Liberty Hawks softball team overpowered the Coyotes on Monday, 8-4, at the Clovis Easter Classic in the Buchanan Softball Complex.

Liberty, a program that is only 10 years old but has five Valley Championships, banged out eight hits against three different Coyote pitchers. The Coyotes were one of the few teams that started softball in the Central Section in the late 1970s and have one Valley Championship among its numerous league championships.

However, both teams had different results in their second games. The Div. IV Hawks lost a tough 7-6 game to the Div. I Frontier-Bakersfield Titans. While the Div. I Coyotes defeated Div. III Cesar Chavez 12-3 in pool play...
