The Hawks were holding onto a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. Yosemite quarterback Joey Woolsey drove the Badgers down the field on a 10-play drive inside the Liberty five-yard line.
On second down, Woolsey tried to hit Jason Lee out of the backfield. The ball was slightly underthrown, but Liberty free safety Logan Pierce was there and picked off the pass to turn the ball over. It would be the first of five interceptions by the Hawks.

Midway through the second quarter, Liberty got the ball back on a fourth down incompletion by Woolsey at their own nine-yard line. Wade Wallace found a hole around the right side and sprinted for a 52-yard gain.
After a seven-yard gain by Richie Brandt, Zach Richey found Travis Jordan for a 12-yard gain. Two plays later, Richey hit Logan Pierce up the middle in the end zone for the touchdown and a 14-0 lead with 6:53 left in the half...
