After 47 1/2 minutes, Friday night’s game came down to a measurement.
On a fourth-and-10 with the Liberty Hawks holding onto a 20-14 lead, Chowchilla had the ball at the Hawks’ 23-yard line.
Chowchilla quarterback Devaughn Gaines went back to pass and was forced to scramble. He dove for the first down, but Liberty’s Cody Sanders tackled Gaines and appeared to be short of the first down. Gaines had to get to the Liberty 13 and the ball was placed on the 14.
The chains were brought out, the referees stretched it out and the Hawks took over possession as Gaines was six-inches short of the first down...
