After the round of singles, things looked bright for the Liberty Hawks girls tennis team in the Division IV Valley Championship match at Taft High School.

Then the sun went down and the lights turned on.

The Hawks couldn’t get adjusted to the lighting, or lack of lighting, and dropped all three doubles matches in a 5-4 loss Tuesday.

“The lighting on the courts was poor, at best, and that was all Taft needed for an advantage over us,” head coach Greg Ruland said. “They need to be more accommodating in the future when they play so late and force their opponent to play with such poor lighting. Two matches had to be moved because lights went out. They definitely had the home court advantage with such crappy lighting.” ...
