In the second game of the Kerman High Softball Easter Classic, the Liberty Hawks didn’t play their best game in an 8-2 loss to the Riverdale Cowgirls, a team they beat 3- 1 last week.
Since then, the Hawks rediscovered themselves, closing out the tournament with a 10-0 victory over Sanger and a 5-1 win over SunnysideFresno on Tuesday to place fifth in the tournament.
“This was a solid tournament,” head coach Leslie Wood said. “Riverdale was an eye opener for us. We didn’t play our best ball. It was a lesson learned. I liked the way we responded from the loss.”
Pitcher Hannah Shevenell had her own troubles against Riverdale. She responded with back-to-back one-hitters, including Tuesday’s win over Sunnyside. She struck out 11 and walked one against the Wildcats. She had a perfect game through the first 4 1/3 innings and struck out seven straight...
