Liberty begins new legacy with title

Five days after the 2005 Liberty Hawks were honored for leaving a legacy on the field as the first team in school history to win a Valley Championship, the 2013 version of the Hawks wrote their own legacy.

The 2005 Hawks were inducted into Liberty’s first class of their Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday. Coaches Leslie Wood and Bob Barber were also honored as coaches of that team.

Barber talked about each team leaving its legacy on the field and the 2013 Hawks will have their own legacy after a 4-1 victory Friday over the Chowchilla Redskins to earn the outright North Sequoia League championship, the program’s sixth league championship.

The Hawks will try to become a six-time Valley Champion, including five straight, when the Central Section playoffs begin Tuesday. The Hawks, in their first year in Div. IV, are hoping to get that top seed to be able to host every game in the postseason...
