MADERA RANCHOS — Just like in the Central Section Division IV championship game, one goal was all that the Liberty Hawk girls soccer team needed to pull out a win in the Division III Southern California Regional quarterfinals.

It was the No. 3 Hawks, who were coming off a homefield shutout win over Central Valley Christian-Visalia in the Valley Championship game on Feb. 24, that advanced in the state playoffs with a 1-0 win Monday against No. 6 Viewpoint-Calabasa of the Southern Section at Liberty High.

Liberty (27-3-1) will play at No. 2 Marymount-Los Angeles (20-4-4) today at 3:30 in the semifinals.

In the first-ever state home playoff game for the Hawks, senior captains Kylee Hoelzel and Jordan Moineau teamed up to score Liberty’s game-deciding goal against the Patriots (22-4-3) while freshman goalkeeper Allison Saether recorded her second straight playoff shutout...
