If there was any one play that could summate Madera's 48-7 victory in last week's Stadium Road Showdown against Madera South, it was a first-and-10 scoring run from the 15-yard line by Alec Gamboa late in the first quarter.

On the previous play, running back Taylor Brunolli — already playing in place of injured leading rusher Jesus Jimenez — suffered a hamstring injury and it looked like the Coyotes, up 14-7 at the time, could have trouble establishing a running game.

Gamboa took the handoff and proved that wrong. The play started with Gamboa taking the ball to the right side of the field.

Linebacker Omar Enriquez looked like he'd be able to make the tackle, maybe even for a loss, but Gamboa — true to his nature as one of the best three-sport athletes Madera High has seen — made a quick cut and juked Enriquez off his trail...
