Inexperience is the word for Stallions

As the leader of one of the better sports programs on campus, Madera South girls volleyball head coach Nathan Perez knows there’s no such thing as a rebuilding year.

However, with just four returning players and the loss of every offensive threat but one, he could be excused. Perez isn’t accepting excuses and hopes that his group of sophomores can step up right away at the varsity level.

“We have a lot of inexperience,” he said. “There are a lot of intangibles with this team. They have work ethic, punctuality and the ability to do the little things. We accomplished all of those this summer and we’re a different team than before the summer started.

The Stallions return three seniors — setter Tanya Shinen, outside hitter/middle blocker Michele Martinez and outside hitter Karen Teran — along with sophomore defensive specialist Jenny Pedraza...
