Taking on the defending North Yosemite League champion and current firstplace team in the conference, the Madera South High School girls basketball team gave Hoover-Fresno, winner of 16 straight league games, all it could handle.
It was senior point guard Miyah Rollins and her gamehigh 22 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, who helped Hoover avoid the upset Friday in a 51-40 win over the Stallions at Madera South High.
It was a far cry from the first time these two teams met in the NYL opener on Jan. 18, which was a 23-point win by Hoover.
“We had this game,” Madera South head coach Joe Thomas said. “This is the best we’ve played but what killed us is that we gave up way too many open 3-pointers. We played way better team-defense and offense. The last two games we’ve been finally attacking the hoop and it works.” ...
