The Jose Canseco Home Run Challenge, presented by Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, is making a stop in Fresno Aug. 12 and seven contestants will go against him in a home run derby prior to a 7:05 p.m. game between the Fresno Grizzlies and the Oklahoma City Redhawks at Chukchansi Park.
Hopefuls interested in becoming a contestant must attend an open tryout July 20 at 8 a.m. in Chukchansi Park. At the tryout, each hopeful will receive 10 home run derby swings, choosing either softball, baseball or both. The top three contestants in the softball and baseball divisions will be selected to compete against Canseco. The seventh finalist will be determined by an online auction that will go live on July 21 on www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
Contestants are required to bring their own bats to the open tryouts while the Grizzlies will provide softballs and baseballs. Pitchers will be on hand, but contestants can op to bring their own. Contestants can enter Chukchansi Park for the open tryout, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on July 20 through the Gate 2 entrance off H Street.
