While most high school students are enjoying their winter break getting reacquainted with the couch and catching up on television shows while keeping up on Facebook, Madera Coyote boys soccer player Luis Hernandez ventured to Germany after the New Year.

Hernandez, who has been a practice player for the United States Under-17 and 18 National team, was chosen to play for the U.S. at the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup 2012 indoor soccer tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.

Hernandez, last season’s County/Metro Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player, left for Germany on Jan. 3, basically spending the entire day on planes.
