FRESNO — Facing a big and physical Bullard-Fresno boys soccer team on the road with first place in league on the line, the Madera Coyotes turned to last season’s County/Metro Athletic Conference MVP in Luis Hernandez to even the odds.
Hernandez, a member of the United States Under-17 and 18 National Team, helped in a big way as he scored two goals Tuesday evening against last season’s CIF Central Section Division I runner-up and the defending CMAC champion Knights in a 2-1 win at Bullard High.
With the win, Madera (11- 4-6) improved to 3-1-1 in the CMAC and also positioned itself into a first place fourway tie with Bullard (7-3-5), Sunnyside-Fresno and Sanger.
It was also a bit of redemption for the Coyotes, who finished in second place behind the Knights last season as Madera was swept by Bullard in CMAC play — which included a pair of 3-0 losses...
