Hawks win tournament under new head coach

After winning the Div. IV Valley Championship last season, the Liberty Hawks girls soccer team underwent a coaching change that could have upset what was already set in motion.

After winning all four matches at the Kamansky Classic, all doubts could be erased as the Hawks scored 11 goals and didn’t allow one into the back of the net to win the championship under new coach Eli Liuba.

Liuba, who lost in the championship game last season with Madera at the Kamansky Classic, won the Kamansky Classic with the Hawks in his first matches with the team. The Hawks defeated Kingsburg 3-0 in the championship match.

“These girls are easy to coach,” he said. “They have a great work attitude. They do what you want them to do. They have talent and it’s easy to coach.” ...
