Hawks stumble against Wildcats

After a tough four-set volleyball loss to the Edison-Fresno Tigers, the Liberty Hawks returned home and hoped to have a good match against the Sunnyside-Fresno Wildcats.

However, it never turned out that way as the Wildcats swept by the Hawks, winning the non-league match 3-0 on Thursday at Liberty.

“I’m not exactly sure what happened,” first-year head coach Brandon St. Lucia said. “They came out flat, didn’t want to play and had no heart. It was kind of sad. Hopefully we will get this out of our system. Everybody has a bad match and, hopefully, this is ours.”

The Hawks recorded 19 kills in the three sets and three came on set kills from setter Shannon Foley. Siera Cullins led the team with five kills...
