Hawks split in tourney opener

KERMAN — After winning the opening game of the Kerman Easter Classic, the Liberty Hawk softball team struggled in a rematch with Riverdale.

Liberty, which defeated the Cowgirls 3-1 on March 20, couldn’t get a repeat performance in an 8-2 loss to Riverdale on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the Goldenrod Softball Complex.

The Hawks (11-4-1) also beat the Fresno Warriors, 13- 2, in their first game of the tournament and will play today at 1.

In the second game, Liberty’s Hannah Shevenell faced Riverdale’s Sierra Ipsen as both pitchers didn’t surrender a run in the first two innings...
