The Liberty Hawks and Madera Coyotes headed into Saturday’s match-up at the Buchanan Preseason Tournament with identical 1-1-1 records, but it was the Hawks that came away with an impressive victory to head into a week of non-league games with confidence.
The Coyotes, on the other hand, are trying to regroup after an 11-0 loss to Liberty, the first loss to the Hawks in the school’s history, and a 3-1 loss to Clovis East.
“We had plenty of chances to come out with more than one win in this tournament,” Coyote coach Judy Shaubach said. “We have nowhere to go but up. We have to regroup quickly because we have a few tough games ahead of us.”
The Coyotes will next play a doubleheader at Tri-River Athletic Conference foe Central-Fresno and will host defending Division I Valley Champion El DiamanteVisalia — and ace Sierra Hyland — on Thursday...
