Last in a three-part series previewing the Div. V football championship game

He’s only one player, but he’s the player to stop if the Liberty Hawks football team wants to repeat as Div. V Central Section champions tonight.

He might be the most decorated player ever to come to Liberty since former NFL and Fresno State Bulldog David Carr visited Liberty to watch his younger brother, Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr beat the Hawks with Bakersfield Christian in 2008.

He has rushed for more than 3,000 yards this season, averaging 266 yards per game, and has 48 touchdowns. He is the Central Section’s career leader and season leader in both categories. To put that into perspective, Liberty’s top three backs have rushed for more than 2,500 yards combined and have scored 28 touchdowns.

So when the top-seeded Hawks found out they were facing the second seeded Mendota Aztecs for tonight’s Div. V Central Section Championship at Liberty after beating No. 4 Lindsay in the semifinals, their concentration turned towards Edgar Segura and all of his records...
