Hawks opens with scrimmage

Expectations are riding high for the Liberty Hawks football team when the public sees the team for the first time Friday night in the annual Green/Gold scrimmage.

The Hawks, who advanced to the Division V Valley Championship game last season, will open the season at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting, with the junior varsity team playing at the same time. The game may be pushed back because of the hot weather.

Gates open at 5:30 and there is a $6 charge or $20 for a family of four, but it includes a hamburger dinner.

“Practices have been going pretty good,” head coach Mike Nolte said. “The numbers are up from last year. We’ve been some pretty spirited practices.” ...
