MADERA RANCHOS — It was aggressive base running and a stellar defensive performance that helped the No. 2 seeded Liberty softball team advance in the CIF Central Section Division V playoffs.
Behind the pitching of senior Hannah Shevenell, the three-time defending champion Hawks shut down No. 7 Central Valley Christian-Visalia, 7-0, in Friday’s quarterfinals at Liberty High.
“I saw no fear but just focus all day from our team,” Liberty coach Bob Barber said. “That’s what we like. Solid defense, we got our bunts down and we played the small ball well. The girls were aggressive on the bases.”
