When the Liberty Hawks won the Division V Valley Championship two years ago, a majority of the team, including four of the top six players, were sophomores.

The Hawks expected to win their second straight championship last year and came through with their second straight title.

Much was expected out of the Hawks this season to duplicate last season’s success. However, this season came with some adversity. One of the top players, Eunice Castro, graduated early and is now playing tennis for Fresno City College. Two other players, Annie Erickson and Chloe Doyle, missed significant time with injuries.

The Hawks didn’t miss a beat. They lost their first match of the season to Division I and Tri-River Athletic Conference power Clovis West, but have reeled off 16 straight wins since then...
