Hawks offense throttled by Huskies

A day after scoring 29 runs in two games at the Edison Softball Tournament, the Liberty Hawks could only manage two hits in a 1-0 loss to the Hanford West Huskies for the Pool B championship.

Both teams headed into Saturday’s match-up as, by far, the best teams at the tournament. The Hawks, who lost to the Huskies 12-1 last year at the Buchanan Preaseason Tournament, held the Huskies in check after a first inning run.

“We have to raise our level for good teams,” coach Bob Barber said. “I am pleased with how we hung with them, though.”

Things don’t get any easier for the Division V Hawks. They open the Buchanan Preseason Tournament today against Division I Central Section champion El Diamante, Tri-River Athletic Conference power Buchanan and Division II Tulare Western...
