Hawks move on in D-III playoffs

In a quest to reach its third Central Section championship game in four years, the Liberty girls soccer team took its first step toward reaching that attainable goal in the Div. III Central Section playoffs.

The No. 2 Hawks, who won the Div. IV title last season and were moved up a division, opened their playoff bid Thursday night with a 2-0 win over No. 7 Porterville in the quarterfinals at Liberty High.

Liberty (21-3-3) will host No. 3 East Bakersfield, 4-3 winners over No. 6 Hoover-Fresno, on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Facing a Porterville team that was fresh off a 2-0 win over No. 10 Selma, the Hawks received a goal each from senior forward captain Danni Devine and junior forward Juliet Olsen...
