With a record-setting offense, the Liberty Hawks boys soccer team hopes to use that in a Div. V playoff run after seedings are announced today.
Two years ago, the Hawks, as the lowest seed in the tournament, upset the top seed and advanced to the semifinals. Last year, Liberty scored what seemed like two goals in an apparent upset over top seed Orosi, but the last goal was disallowed and Orosi won in overtime. They went on to win the Div. V title. Liberty was the only team to score against Orosi in the playoffs.
This year, Liberty head coach Darrell Ratzlaff hopes to have the offense for a long playoff run. Surprisingly, the offense has come from his son, Travis.
Travis, a senior, set the school record for goals scored in a season, formerly held by James Woods (16) five years ago, and is now up to 20 goals. He is tops in the North Sequoia League in goals scored and points (assists, goals and shots on goal). After two years as a complementary player, Ratzlaff has come into his own...
