When Liberty boys soccer head coach Darrell Ratzlaff learned of his team’s seeding on Saturday, he wasn’t too concerned.

“If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best,” he said at the time.

After a 5-2 overtime win over No. 9 Granite Hills-Porterville, Ratzlaff and the eighthseeded Hawks had the daunting task of facing top seed Riverdale at home where the Cowboys haven’t lost.

The Hawks got a game-tying goal 10 minutes into the first half by freshman James Hernandez and Gaston Villanueva scored the eventual game-winner eight minutes into the second half for the 2-1 upset victory over the Cowboys on Thursday...
