After surviving some rocky moments, the Liberty Hawks softball bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning to score five runs in a 9-5 victory Tuesday over the Fowler Redcats in the Div. IV semifinal playoff game.

The Hawks were like prizefighters. They got knocked down a couple of times, but came back swinging and will head to their fifth straight Valley Championship game Thursday at Liberty against Taft High School at 4:30 p.m.

The Hawks have won the past four Valley Championships in Div. V and will host their first Div. IV title game Thursday.

“We just believed if our energy is positive and up, great things will happen,” coach Bob Barber said. “Fowler has a good team, but our girls weren’t intimidated. It’s about playing those big teams early in the season that prepares them for these big games.” ...
