Hawks head to sixth straight title game

On the back of a four-run first inning, the Liberty Hawks softball team advanced to its sixth straight Central Section title game today at Taft High School.

The second-seeded Hawks, a 5-1 winner in the semifinals over No. 6 Rosamond on Wednesday, advanced to their second straight Div. IV championship after winning the previous four Div. V championships.

The Hawks will try to avenge a loss to Taft in last year’s Div. IV championship today when they, again, play for the title, this time in Taft. Last year, the Wildcats defeated Liberty 9-2.

“I see a battle and another pitching war,” coach Jamie Duke said. “I hope they are looking past us. I see two good teams battling.” ...
